AB 1745, to expand access to higher education for veteran dependents, signed into law

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Governor Newsom signed Assemblywoman Soria’s AB 1745 into law today, October 10th.

AB 1745 expands eligibility for dependents of veterans to qualify for the College Fee Waiver for Veteran Dependents, which waives tuition and fees at any California Community College, California State University, or University of California campus. Currently, the program disqualifies many dependents of service-disabled veterans due to an income cap. This law will raise the income cap allowing a greater number of veteran dependents to qualify for the college fee waiver program and pursue a higher education degree.

“The Veterans College Fee Waiver Program will have a lasting impact on veterans’ families, for generations to come,” said Assemblywoman Soria. “I am grateful to the governor for passing this bill and prioritizing veterans’ access to higher education.”
