California is facing a critical nursing shortage, especially in rural and underserved communities. While many community colleges offer associate degrees in nursing, today’s healthcare system increasingly requires nurses to hold a bachelor’s degree. Unfortunately, bachelor’s programs are mostly limited to expensive private schools or the already overcrowded UC and CSU systems, which don’t always reach the areas that need them most.
Assembly Bill 1400 Offers a Solution
This bill would create a pilot program allowing up to 15 California community college districts to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This would make nursing degrees more affordable and accessible, helping meet workforce demands and opening doors for more students across the state.
AB 1400 helps build a stronger, more equitable healthcare workforce for California’s future.
