AB 1566, to expand veteran’s access to services and benefits, signed into law

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTOGovernor Newsom signed Assemblywoman Soria’s bill, AB 1566, into law today, October 10th.

AB 1566 will improve data collection by County Veterans Service Officers (CVSOs) in order to inform innovations to the delivery of services and benefits to California veterans.

CVSOs are key supporters to California veterans, aiding veterans to establish eligibility for benefits and file claims. Currently, the California Department of Veterans Affairs publishes an annual report on the activities of CVSOs. This bill will ensure these reports include key information about county investments, staffing and operations, and structure of each CVSO.

“Our veterans deserve access to services and benefits they have earned,” said Assemblywoman Soria. “This law will help facilitate improvements for veterans to more easily access services and benefits including disability compensation, healthcare coverage, job fairs, and much more.”
