AB 1566 aims to expand veteran’s access to services and benefits
SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Soria’s bill, AB 1566, was approved by the Legislature and is headed to Governor Newsom’s desk.
AB 1566 aims to improve data collection by County Veterans Service Officers (CVSOs) in order to inform innovations to the delivery of services and benefits to California veterans.
CVSOs are key supporters to California veterans, aiding veterans to establish eligibility for benefits and file claims. Currently, the California Department of Veterans Affairs publishes an annual report on the activities of CVSOs. This bill seeks to ensure these reports include key information about county investments, staffing and operations, and structure of each CVSO.
“CVSO programs provide essential support to our California veterans,” said Assemblywoman Soria. “This bill will help facilitate improvements to veterans services like job fairs, healthcare access, disability compensation, and much more.”
