For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria (D-Merced) selected two students to receive the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) scholarship, in recognition of their hard work and perseverance academically, professionally, and personally.

Isabel Rodriguez and Jesus Gabriel De La Mora Herrera, of Merced, have been selected as the Assembly District 27 recipients of the $5,000 CLLCF scholarship, and are among 61 awardees selected out of over 900 applicants across California.

Isabel is a dedicated student at Modesto Junior College, transferring to UCLA in the fall to study Pre-Law. She has overcome many obstacles to pursue higher education, and hopes to become a lawyer and give back to her community. Jesus is a hard-working UC Merced senior studying mechanical engineering. He is also a member of United We Dream, the largest national nonprofit immigrant youth led network, and the Vice President of the chapter of the organization at UC Merced.

“Isabel and Jesus are exemplary students who have worked hard to pursue successful academic careers despite facing adversity,” said Assemblywoman Soria. “I am so proud to honor them both, and can’t wait to see what they will achieve.”

“The California Latino Legislative Caucus is proud to continue providing these opportunities to invest in the future of the next generation of leaders,” said Latino Caucus Chair Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside). “Pursuing higher education requires commitment and dedication, which these students have demonstrated, and we commend them for their hard work. We believe that these individuals have the potential to make a positive impact on our society and we are grateful to support them in their academic pursuits.”
