Assemblywoman Soria’s AB 1647 and AB 1566 passed by the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee

Two of Assemblywoman Soria’s veterans’ benefit bills approved unanimously by the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO - Assemblywoman Soria’s AB 1647 and AB 1566 were approved by the Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee today, March 28th.

AB 1647 aims to create a grant program to establish, support, and improve Veteran’s Treatment Courts (VTC) and their alternatives. VTC’s provide treatment and support to veterans who have committed crimes by providing mental health treatment, substance abuse services, mentorship programs and other alternatives to incarceration.

AB 1566 seeks to increase the detail of annual County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO) reports. CVSOs are local agencies that help veterans and their families obtain benefits and services. The bill will help increase access to services and benefits our Veterans have earned and are entitled to while increasing accountability of local agencies responsible for providing those services.
