Are you a high school student in Assembly District 27 who is interested in learning more about government?
Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria invites you to apply to the Young Legislators Program in Assembly District 27. This free, 6-month program will offer participants the opportunity to learn about the state legislative process and advance their advocacy skills in order to cultivate the next generation of Central Valley leaders.
Program Details
- Students must apply to this competitive program; 10-15 students will be selected
- Program will run during the fall and spring academic semesters
- Participants will be required to meet one Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (participants must attend at least 80% of meetings)
- Participants will be required to volunteer at a minimum of 2 community meetings/events hosted by Assemblywoman Soria
- Participants will learn about state government and the most pressing issues affecting Assembly District 27
- At the completion of the program, participants will travel to Sacramento to visit the State Capitol
- Participants will receive an educational scholarship upon completion

Application Process and Requirements
- Applicants must be 16-18 years of age and attending a high school within Assembly District 27 for the 2024-25 academic year
- Application Deadline: November 3, 2024
- Minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA
- Commit to 6 monthly, 4-hour Saturday meetings (Entire program is free of cost)
- Commit to an April/May field trip to Sacramento to visit the State Capitol
2024 - 2025 Young Legislators Program
Program Description:
Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria’s Young Legislators Program is an opportunity for students in the 27th Assembly District to have a front row seat in the public policy and legislative arena. During this 6-month program, students will meet once a month to advance their advocacy skills, better understand the issues they care about, gain valuable leadership skills, and learn about the legislative process.

- January: Session 1: Government 101 Day
- February: Session 2: Law Day
- March: Session 3: Education Day
- April: Session 4: Agriculture & Water Day
- May: Session 5: Healthcare Day
- June: Trip to Sacramento: The Process of a Bill / Graduation Reception
Requirements:
- High school student, 16 – 18 years old
- Minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA
- Must live or attend high school in Assembly District 27
- Commit to 6 monthly, 4-hour Saturday meetings (Entire program is free of cost)
- Commit to attend Sacramento field trip visiting the State Capitol
