Assemblywoman Soria Votes in Favor of AB 379 to Protect Kids from Sexual Predators

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria (D- Merced) today voted in support of AB 379, which strengthens penalties against the sexual exploitation of kids. The bill provides felony penalties for predators who solicit sex from a minor.

“I want to be clear, protecting our kids from sexual predators is non-negotiable for me”, said Assemblywoman Soria. “Anyone who solicits sex from a minor should be held accountable with the toughest penalties. Under this bill, those sick predators will be charged with a felony. More importantly, this bill ensures that we are fulfilling our promise to the victims of human trafficking, by providing desperately needed resources for these individuals who have just gone through hell and back. And for those businesses that turn a blind eye to sex trafficking, hotels, motels and other business, AB 379 imposes steep fines for their role.”

AB 379 passed by a vote of 74-0 and now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
